Remote work: How to be Productive and Balanced?

Every day the number of people who are used to working from home is increasing. For those who are not accustomed to working remotely, it may not be easy to adjust to the business environment and maintain a work-life balance.

We've put together some common tips to keep you productive and balanced when you're at home.

Find a place to work

First, you need to determine exactly your workplace. It is not a good idea to work on a sofa in front of the TV or in the bedroom. Perfectly if you have a desk or you can use your kitchen`s desk temporarily.

When you do not have that space at home, you need to create one. It doesn't have to be your favorite place to stay, but it should be light and relatively quiet. Of course, mobile and internet should work perfectly there.

If your partner is also working from home, it is best not to cross at work. Try to organize your workplaces in different rooms so that you do not interfere with each other during video conferencing with colleagues and do not get distracted by family conversations.

Determine what you need

It is best to keep everything you need for your work. If you need to go to another room every minute, you run the risk of often getting distracted with unnecessary things and slowing down your work.

Therefore, when you determine where your workplace will be located and move to its location, be sure to think about where you put everything you need to accomplish the work.

Take off your pajamas

It will be easier for you to get started when you wake up after all the usual rituals: visit the bathroom, change your favorite pajamas or bathrobe to comfortable but not home-made clothes, drink aromatic coffee, and only then turn on your computer.

Your body needs to understand that it is at work and tune in to the performance. So, if you take your laptop to bed and start working, barely keeping your eyes peeled, you are unlikely to be able to show the same result.

In addition, after quarantine, you run the risk of getting professional and emotional burnout because you do not differentiate between work and home spaces.

Follow the schedule

In order for work and home to not blend into one incomprehensible time interval, it is very important to keep to the schedule. Start working at well-defined hours, having lunch breaks and small breaks to work out. If you need to work with your child besides work, it is very important to plan your day. Write everything down in a notebook: from Skype meetings to feeding and playing with your baby.

Take care of your health

Keep home the safety rules for your health. Wash your hands from time to time, wipe your desktop with a damp cloth, and disinfect your computer. Remember to drink plenty of water, ventilate the room and take care of the right temperature. It will also be superfluous to charge the whole family.

After all, when your physical activity goes down to a minimum, it entails health problems. Doctors are advised to get up from behind the computer and do warm-ups once an hour. If you're afraid of forgetting work and forgetting about your child, set yourself an alarm clock to remind you that it's time to eat or do a little exercise.

Tune in to the positive

In this difficult time, it is important to remain calm and positive. Try to look for the good in the fact that you are now working from home. For example, you no longer have to travel in crowded public transportation or stand in traffic jams, you have the opportunity to sleep longer, not rush anywhere, and eat properly with your family.

But at the same time, it is not necessary to relax too much, because quarantine is not eternal and you will soon learn again the charms of office life.
